Marylanders Return to Your Roots 2025

Purpose and Justification for GoFundMe Campaign: Environmental Clean-Up of the four districts, Harper, Pleebo, Karluway, and Barrobo in Maryland County, Liberia
“Marylanders Return To Your Roots 2025” is a nonpolitical community-driven initiative to reconnect with our heritage and foster development in our beloved Maryland County, Liberia. Our group comprises of Marylanders within Liberia, the diaspora, and associates united by a common goal: to return to our isolated yet culturally rich County in December 2025, and contribute to its growth and revitalization through local government collaboration and private sector investment.
Emerging from a 15-year devastating civil war that left most of the infrastructures in Maryland County, especially the main road leading to the county, deplorable, Maryland continues to remain isolated from the rest of Liberia, suffers many economic setbacks and relies heavily on neighboring Ivory Coast for basic goods and services. The prevailing infrastructural challenges have resulted in inflation and a high cost of living for ordinary Marylanders, who are mostly unemployed. These environmental cleaning initiatives are also intertwined with the group's plans to embark on a massive “Return to Your Roots campaign in 2025,” culminating in investment, economic, and growth opportunities for the County.
As part of its primary objectives of implementing quarterly community clean-up campaigns and environmental conservation projects, the Group is launching a GoFundMe to finance these campaigns at an estimated cost of US$10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Dollars) annually.
Purpose: The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign is to raise funds to conduct regular environmental clean-up campaigns in the four districts of the County, at a cost of US $2,500.00 quarterly. Our goal is to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for the residents by removing waste, reducing pollution, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship within the communities.
Justification: Maryland County, like many beautiful coastal communities in Liberia, faces significant challenges with waste management, environmental degradation, and pollution. These challenges have led to the accumulation of litter, clogged drainage systems, and increased health risks due to unsanitary conditions, especially along the coastal beaches.
By conducting regular clean-up and environmental awareness campaigns, we aim to address these issues and achieve the following:
1. Improved Public Health: Reducing the amount of waste in public spaces while creating awareness will significantly decrease the risk of diseases related to poor sanitation, such as cholera, malaria, and other water-borne illnesses that are prevalent in the County.

2. Environmental Protection: Regular clean-ups will help preserve the natural beauty of the four districts, Harper City, Pleebo, Karluway, and Barrobo, to protect local wildlife and prevent further degradation of the environment.

3. Community Engagement: These campaigns will engage residents in the County's four (4) districts, especially the youth, in meaningful activities that promote environmental awareness and responsibility.

4. Sustainable Development: A coastal County with recreational beaches, cleaner cities, and beaches will attract more tourists and investors, contributing to the economic development of Harper and the other districts in the County. Additionally, it will lay the foundation for sustainable waste management practices and environmental awareness.

5. Educational Impact: Through these clean-up efforts, we will educate (create awareness) the community about the importance of proper waste disposal and recycling, fostering long-term behavioral change.
