My name is Gina Vallance and I’ve created this fundraiser for my dear friend and coworker, Remell Tillis. Not only is Remell one of the kindest and funniest people I know, she’s also one of the strongest. But recently, Remell shared with all of us that she has been feeling sick for the last couple of months. She has been losing weight, is unable to eat, and she’s been feeling extremely tired. She is currently going through several tests in order to rule out the “C” word and is also being tested for possible infections. Unfortunately, the process of medical testing as we all know is brutally slow, and waiting to hear results of her tests as well as waiting for her upcoming medical appointments is unbearable.
Not only can Remell not work because she is so lethargic, unable to eat, and battles dehydration from her undiagnosed illness, she is not receiving any disability money at this time because she recently just returned back to work after having had surgery on her hand due to a work injury. The disability money she did receive for her work injury was not enough to sustain her and her five grandchildren since prices of food, gas, and utilities have gone up here in Los Angeles, and she was relieved to finally be back at work only to now be stricken with a serious illness.
Remell is overwhelmed with worry over providing for her five grandchildren who live with her and whose ages range from 5 to 12 years old. Her grandchildren are adorable, and they've always held a special place in my heart, especially after her grandson was attacked by a pitbull and later, all five of her grandchildren and herself included, survived a drive-by shooting when walking through their neighborhood. When I heard this news my heart broke for them. The fear they felt was immeasurable and it was extremely traumatic. I pray for the safety and health for all of them.
To add to what is already an unimaginable amount of stress, her house has gone into foreclosure and she and her grandchildren are going to be removed from their home. The time frame for which this will happen will be between 3 days from now to 3 months. On top of that, her car is inoperable and needs a new transmission, which she cannot afford. Remell has to use Lyft services to take her back and forth to her doctor appointments, and the grocery store which is very expensive.
My friend Remell is such a good person with a strong faith in God and my heart goes out to her for all this stress that has been put on her. She needs to be able to rest and heal but how can she with the inevitable reality she must face of losing her house and becoming homeless along with a serious illness that we pray is not the "C" word.
I wanted to share Remell’s story because she deserves all the best this world has to offer, and rather than feel sick with worry, I wanted to take action and find the angels out there who could help by donating to this sweet and amazing soul, so that she can find a new, affordable place to live without having to go to a shelter!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I would be so grateful if you’d share this story with your friends and family.
