Help Remi Get Her Hero Arm
Hello! This GoFundMe is for my 9-year-old daughter, Remi. She was born missing her left hand due to an amniotic band in the womb. She recently has been asking for a robotic arm, saying it will help her feel more confident in her abilities day to day. She has been unfortunately dealing with some bullying due to her arm.
We have already appealed the decision twice but were denied each time. A letter from Select Health reaffirmed their stance, calling the prosthetic "not medically necessary". Jami countered that doctors have provided documentation supporting its medical necessity.
When contacted for comment, Select Health cited privacy laws and did not address the questions surrounding the family's case.
Without coverage, the family faces a $24,000 out-of-pocket cost for the HeroArm. While they are willing to pay if necessary, the Batemans hope their story raises awareness for others in similar situations.
“We’ve seen what she can do with the prosthetic,” Jami said. “It’s life-changing, and she deserves the chance to use it.”
The family continues to press Select Health for a change, advocating for both their daughter and others who might face similar insurance challenges.
