Help Reopen Lifecycle Kids

Donation protected
The tragic floods on Tuesday August 21st in southern Wisconsin not only damaged hundreds of peoples homes in Mazomanie, but also were the cause of the towns only licensed daycare center being forced to close its doors.

Lifecycle Kids, located in downtown Mazomanie Wisconsin and owned by Karen Peterson-Lienau and her husband Stefan Peterson has been the only source of licensed group childcare in the Wisconsin Heights School District for the last five years and provides care for almost 80 children ages 6 weeks to 12 years and employs a staff of almost 20.

On the morning of August 21st, after a record rainfall the night before, water filled the center and many of the homes around it.

After hours of waiting for the water to go down so we could enter the center and assess damages, Karen was able to enter the building late Tuesday evening.  What she found was the evidence of what had been about 10 inches of water on most the ground floor of the center.   The water damaged the flooring and walls, almost all shelving and furniture and many many toys, books and other supplies.  It also left a layer of dirty silt on everything it touched.

Karen and Stefan are so grateful that the buildings owner had flood insurance, which will cover most of the cost of the rebuild of the church. The other good news is that their School Age center, just down Hudson Street, only had minimal basement damage and is on track to reopen soon.

However, the business, Lifecycle Kids LLC, did not have flood insurance.

As of now, our Insurance carrier has informed us that nothing for the business will be covered.  No supplies, furniture, toys, books or staffing and business costs.

Right now, we are working hard on clean up; getting the school age center up and running and clearing everything out of the main center in the church to allow for the floors and drywall to be torn out.

We are also exploring different options of locations to open up temporarily while we wait for the church remodel to be completed.  We have a few leads so far that look promising.

Our hope for raised funds is to get a temporary location up and running, supply that location with the materials and supplies it needs to run and help cover business costs while we have a temporary lack of income.

Our teachers and staff have been left without an income until we are able to open back up, many of them have families and some of them are single moms.  We hope to be able to provide them with at least a small compensation while they are forced out of work as well as continue to assist in the cost of their health and dental insurance.  In order to keep our amazing teachers and support staff at Lifecycle Kids, we need to be able to help them during this difficult time, before they are forced to look for alternative employment.

The towns of Mazomanie, Black Earth and Arena now have almost 70 families who are without daycare; we need to work together to get this asset of our community back up and running.

Once we have a temporary locations secured, we will put out a list of needed items and be taking donations; but at this point, we do not have a clean, dry location to store anything.

Thank you for hearing our story, we appreciate all of the help we have received.
