Help re-OPEN & re-BUILD Kitenga!
Tax deductible
Two years ago an amazing school for girls opened in rural Tanzania - The Kitenga School for Girls.
On August 16th the dorm had a serious fire. Luckily, everyone escaped unharmed.
Much was lost however. Everyone got out with 'the clothes on their backs'. And the dorm is uninhabitable.
We are Girls Education Collaborative (GEC). We helped the Immaculate Heart Sisters of Africa build and open this remarkable residential school for girls. Now we are going to help them re-OPEN the school and re-BUILD the dorm.
The girls went home for two weeks so the school can prepare temporary dorm rooms in the new classrooms GEC just built but are not yet in use.
So work begins NOW - to change classrooms to bedrooms so 70 students can come back to the school they love on August 31st!
Kitenga is tough and so are we. Not going to lie, the days and weeks ahead won't be easy. Uniforms, mattresses, mosquito nets, school books........and more. Gone.
Just as we were getting ready to build a NEW dorm for the growing school, this huge set-back takes place. But again, most importantly, people are safe. Buildings can be re-built, mattresses can be re-bought, and together, that's what we'll do.
We need to raise $25,000 to re-OPEN the school: the emergency work around converting classrooms to dorms (i.e adding showers, bathrooms, solar electrification, security fencing) and replacing what else was lost: mattresses, uniforms, school books etc
100% of your gift goes directly to the emergency 're-OPEN & re-BUILD Fund' being sponsored by GEC. All of your dollars will go immediately to work to reopen the school and then rebuild the dorm.
If we all pitch in, we can help get these girls back to the school they love. Any size gift will make a huge difference! If we surpass our goal (and I hope we do!) it will go towards re-BUILDING the dorm.
There's Nothing a Girl Can't Do! So please join me in getting the Kitenga School for Girls back on its feet!
PS: These are girls who mostly live from communities where if they are not in school they may be forced into child marriage or dropping out of school to help their families. Many of their families live in critical poverty. These girls want their education. They seek better futures. Let's get them back into school!
