Help Repair the 95th Recon Heritage Room
Donation protected
The 95th Reconnaissance Squadron has one of the longest pedigrees in the United States Air Force, being initially born in 1917 as the 95th Aero Squadron at Kelly Field, Texas. As the first fighter/pursuit squadron on the Western Front of World War I, the 95th boasted 6 aces with a combined kill count of 47 enemy aircraft and balloons.
The legacy of flying excellence carried through World War II as the 95th Bombardment Squadron, contributing planes and 6 crews for the Doolittle Raid and operating in the Mediterranean Theater.
Reactivated in 1982, the 95th Reconnaissance Squadron has operated in England at RAF Alconbury and Mildenhall, where it lives to this day, celebrating it’s 105th birthday in August of 2022.

As part of squadron culture, flying units operate and maintain what’s known as a Heritage Room. In this room resides the memorabilia and history of the unit, and squadrons will often use them as both formal and informal gathering places, to have promotions and roll calls, going-aways and birthdays. Along the walls are typically pictures and collected trophies, trinkets, and sentimental items left behind by flyers that came before.

The 95th Recon Squadron was given a unique building to use as their Heritage Room: An anti-aircraft artillery dome. As one of the last ones left in the world of these specialty buildings, the dome carries not only the history of the 95th, but also the RAF’s WWII training needs.
However, the building, known by the unit as Jake’s Free House, has fallen into disrepair and needs some significant care. Members of the 95th Recon Squadron have undertaken this project, but lack the community connections that stateside units tend to enjoy when it comes to fundraising. That’s why we’re reaching out via GoFundMe. Your donation of as little as $5 would help us be able to restore this building and curate and display a robust collection of memorabilia for one of the most storied units in Air Force history.
As an added “thank you,” any donation of over $200 will be annotated on a plaque to be installed at the completion of the works, to remain in perpetuity in gratitude for those who helped our undertaking.
