Fire damage. Please help me help my mom
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Peyton Burkhart. I’m a nursing student at Otterbein University currently in my junior year. After my Papaw passed away 2 years ago, my mom and I bought a mobile home. She is a single mom on a single income helping put me through college, and buying the home was stability for the future. We didn’t need anything too big, and it’s been the perfect home for us in Delaware, Ohio. The neighborhood is quaint, and we love it.
Recently, one of our neighbors moved out. On that day, their home caught fire and caused heat and water damage to our home. Our house melted from the heat, and the water damage from the fire hose went through the siding into our walls, deeming it all unsafe and in need of repair. Insurance is covering a portion, but the remaining cost is a bit overwhelming. My mom will be too embarrassed or proud to ask for help, so I’m doing it for her. My entire life, she has sacrificed and always made sure I had what I needed. She has always been supportive of me and all of my friends growing up, always providing a safe place for us to be ourselves. She was a parent to those when theirs were unable to be. She can be a bit of a smother, but her heart is pure, and all she wants is for people to be happy. She helps our elderly neighbors whenever she can—takes a plate over when she cooks dinner, helps with rides to doctor appointments, shovels walkways, mows yards, etc. She is always thinking of how she can help others and puts them ahead of herself, all while keeping a smile on her face, hiding the clinical depression that looms inside of her. She has had a bad month with this fire, and the change of seasons is horrible for clinical depression. She is distraught, she is tired, and right now, mourning her father all over again as she just wants his warm embrace and soft-spoken words of empathy and encouragement. I cannot watch her cry any longer. I am reaching out to her friends and anyone asking for even the smallest donation so I can help make sure our home is restored, up to code, and safe to live in.
I assure you any money donated will be used for the sole purpose of repairing the home, and any money reached that is over our costs will be donated to help with mental health awareness. Those who struggle do it in silence and fear of being judged. If able, we will do our part in helping spread awareness and acceptance so no one has to suffer alone. We will pay forward any extra that we receive. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please keep us in your prayers ❤️
