Help Restore Heat To The Skinner Home
Donation protected
On Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m. we noticed there was no heat in our home and the outside temperature was -40° f, after going downstairs we found our basement was flooded with a few inches of water. We called several plumbing and heating technicians, after one was able to be dispatched after hours, they determined the boiler was not repairable and needed to be replaced. The company that did the inspection was not able to schedule for repair so we posted on the Fairbanks Alaska page Sunday morning looking for help. Many graciously recommended and offered services, we selected one who had a decent reputation and had been recommended personally by one of the boiler distributors. We hired him and after 4 days with no progress to the repairs and him saying he would be back by X-time and not returning our calls for many hours after our agreed times, we realized that he was not going to get the job done and was trying to absorb as much cash as possible from us, which lead us to having to seek others to complete the repairs, also leaving us with no heating and out several thousands of dollars. We had 2 other companies assess the remaining work to be done only to find out from both that the (nonrefundable) boiler we had bought new per the original tech's recommendation will not be code compliant and cannot be used.
We are struggling to complete the repairs and keeping our kiddos warm, our wood stove has been a blessing but much more Alaskan cold weather is forecasted that may lead to more damage to our home while the main heat is down. This is hard for us to ask but if you can find it in your heart to help us, even if it's with a few dollars or just wishes, Anything would be greatly appreciated.
