Help Restore Our Beloved Marshall Community

Donation protected
My name is Charlene. I grew up in Marshall North Carolina where hurricane Helene just caused terrible devastation. I am collecting funds to help my hometown directly.

Several of my neighbors and dear friends have reached out and after a lot of thought on the best direction to go I think this is the best way we can all help.

I want to physically be there boots on the ground to help my community and your support in this would mean the world to me. There will be a lot of rebuilding. Our main downtown area has been completely flooded. Many local businesses will need support. Many lost their homes and will be staying in shelters until further notice.

Here are 2 ways to help.

1. Donate to this Go Fund Me: My plan is to distrubute donations to local businesses near and dear to our hearts who lost everything. I will list those below with more information. We will also use the funds to purchase clothing and supplies for those in our community that lost their homes, building supplies to help rebuild, etc. Because cell service is down and power is still not fully restored the plan will be updated as needs arise. I will constantly update everyone through this platform as I distribute funds accordingly.

Financial donations will go towards:
  • Purchasing supplies to take in / donate to all areas of WNC
  • Homemade meals and supplies for the community and volunteers as we clean up and rebuild.
  • Building supplies to help local businesses / homeowners rebuild. Flood insurance is not something everyone in the area had and many lost their homes and businesses.
  • Supporting local business owners directly as they rebuild.

2. Share our Go Fund Me with friends, co-workers and family: This will be a long road ahead and we will be raising funds to support for the next year at least. By sharing your helping us get the word out far and wide.

More about Marshall NC. Marshall is a sweet magical town by the river located about 25 minutes northwest of Asheville. Click this link to learn more about our home and see before photos.

The historic town of Marshall in Madison County is nestled between rocky cliffs and the scenic French Broad River, some 20 miles from Asheville. This small town of 800+ residents celebrates its colorful past while passionately embracing a creative life on the river. Its Main Street is lined with original buildings including the 100-year-old courthouse and is home to eclectic shops, restaurants, breweries, artists’ studios, galleries, music venues and some unique places to stay. There is even an 8 acre island in the middle of the river that was once home to the only High School in the United States built on an uninhabited island, but don’t worry, it’s inhabited by artist studios now.

Here are some of the local businesses that we will be donating to and partnering with to rebuild.

More about me. I grew up in Marshall and went to Appalachian State University in Boone. Out of college I started my career living in Charlotte for 6 years and now I currently live in Chapel Hill. I've been so fortunate in my life to have multiple places I call home in North Carolina. Beautiful communities that I have made so many great friendships with.

I created this go fund me specifically for Marshall because I wanted to directly support my hometown. With it being such a small town I wanted to get the word out about its magic and the lovely community there. I am also doing what I can to support all of WNC as well. Donating blood, donating to the Red Cross who is really helping all over WNC and sending supplies.
