Help Restore Power for Ms. Nancy

Dear Friends and Community,
My name is Amy Dominguez and I am reaching out to ask for support in helping my neighbor, Ms. Nancy (name changed for privacy), a resilient 89-year-old woman who will be celebrating her 90th birthday this year. Ms. Nancy lives alone in Houston, TX, and has been profoundly impacted by a recent derecho storm that impacted Houston on May 16, 2024. This powerful storm left thousands in our community without power, and unfortunately, Ms. Nancy is among them.
A tree in Ms. Nancy’s backyard fell during the storm, bringing down a power line and pulling the electric box from her house. While CenterPoint Energy has inspected the damage, they are unable to restore power until the electric box is replaced and other necessary repairs, estimated to cost around $3,000 or more, are completed.
Ms. Nancy has been without power for over a week and a half now. Living alone and relying solely on her limited Social Security benefits, she simply cannot afford these repairs. With no power, she is struggling to stay safe and comfortable in her home, especially as the hot Houston summer approaches.
We are reaching out to our community to help raise the funds needed for the electric repairs. Your generous contribution will go directly towards hiring a licensed electrician to replace the electric box and make all necessary repairs, so CenterPoint Energy can restore her power. Here is how funds will be used: electric work needed on the house, house siding repair to ensure electric box can be mounted, tree removal, cleaning up the yard, and other repairs as needed (once siding is removed house may need additional structural repairs, TBD).
Ms. Nancy has always been a strong, independent woman, but now she needs our help. Any donation, no matter how small, will bring us closer to our goal and help ensure that Ms. Nancy can live comfortably and safely in her home once again.
