Help us turn on the lights at Riverview Station for Asheville’s Artists

We are sisters Helaine Greene and Trudy Gould, the founders of Riverview Station. An iconic Asheville landmark built in 1902, Riverview Station embodied the spirit of creativity and community that has made the River Arts District so beloved and special. Home to more than 70 galleries, studios and small businesses, and featuring the work of more than 200 working artists, the 1902 brick building was a vibrant, active entryway to the RAD.

Overnight, the devastating flooding and destruction brought by Hurricane Helene filled our creators’ spaces with mud and destroyed the interior as well as many of the electrical, HVAC and other systems needed to run a building of more than 100,000 square feet.

WE WANT TO TURN THE LIGHTS BACK ON IN RIVERVIEW STATION FOR ARTISTS! We will need to restore electrical and other systems and interiors to bring back the second story, where water damage was minimal. Then, we will work in phases to restore and reimagine the rest of the space, keeping the unique spirit of the RAD alive and always seeking ways to elevate and celebrate the work of creators and bring people together.

Our hearts have been full in the face of all this devastation thanks to the expressions of support we have received from the community, including many volunteers helping us with the cleanup. Your financial support, of any amount, will help us to continue this work and finish the job. Riverview Station is a survivor, and so is our creative community and special Asheville culture.

Riverview Station has always been a labor of love. We started it with a vision in 1996 and managed it as a family. We want to be among the first to help bring the unique, the weird, the beautiful character of this special place back to life—all while ensuring that we advance the livelihoods of working artists and creative industries in the post-Helene world.
