Donation protected
Hi, My name is Paul and I’m helping raise money for a friend in France to reunite a lonely donkey with her baby.
***UPDATE: Thankyou so much to everyone who has been so kind to donate. The money raised will go towards finding the donkeys baby and any left over money will be put towards medical bills/food etc.
We have had many who are skeptical of this go fund me project but we cannot wait to give u updates on Pablo the donkey!!***
Here’s his story…
I arrived in Normanday just over 3 and a half years ago. Initially living some 8 km or so from
Domfront, well off the beaten track in the rolling countryside.
It was perhaps a week or so after this my companion at the time and I went into Domfront, when travelling from. the flers direction, and on the approach to town its a really striking Vista and quite similar to Carlton hill in Edinburgh.
Directly across the road sits a small paddock and it was while passing this I first noticed the donkey, I remarked "how strange? that donkeys alone"? I was obviously very fresh faced at this time to how things can be here compared to back home.
The summer rolled on and each time I passed I looked and still no companion could be seen, so it was safe to say none existed.
A year later in April my situation changed and I found myself alone and on a very, very long camping trip. Residing in town and having free time in the evenings I began to visit the donkey, odd evenings but through time this grew to as often as I could. An education began on donkeys as well, how strong a bond they can form and if separated or have a loss they can simply stop eating and fade away, they need companionship, dietary matters were learned, and also when safe they like to sleep laying down and take naps standing up.
The more i learned as my visits continued, the greater my fondness became. I found out that she had been alone for at least 5 years and for at least the time I'd been visiting she'd had no bedding. For her the excitement grew as she saw me coming each time and a very strong bond formed. I was actually in awe of her, here she was alone and traumatized as her last company had been her own foal so not only losing company but her baby as well and she was giving me affection and showing love.
I finally located the owner who lived not far away as I'd grown concerned about her getting a check up from the vet, so i orchestrated a meeting with a french friend to translate and a day and time was agreed upon. On the day of the meeting which was only about two months ago I did take a chance and decide to take bedding to her shelter. she nuzzled me affectionately as I spread it out for her I then left and returned at the agreed time. The meeting was at the field and the owner laughed at seeing the bedding saying donkeys don't sleep laying down, he also dismissed the idea of a vets visit, I felt understandably saddened at the outcome, but the mood lifted that evening when I visited her as she was laying down in her shelter on fresh bedding, what a feeling!!
Then a month ago my french friend spoke to the owner on the phone,he said if you like her so much you can have her,I will give you the paperwork, she can stay where she is as long as you look after the paddock, my heart melted, I was beyond elated!! I got the paperwork and went straight to the vets and got her checked over, as suspected she has sarcoids which I will get treated in the new year but other than that she is in fine health.
So next is the really big thing which is I'm going to locate and purchase her foal back, I'm very determined and confident for the right price she will be sold to me and she will finally have her baby back who I dare say has grown a bit.
When we truly love animals and appreciate the Unconditional love they give we would move mountains for them. Her ee awws are deafening and the love wells up as does the smile on my face, I will never grow tired of that feeling.
