The Chavez family is grieving the loss of their beloved nephew, Melvin Omar Chavez Paz, who tragically lost his life after a police shooting on Saturday, September 21st. In their time of mourning, the family hopes to honor Melvin's memory by reuniting him with his beloved mother in Honduras. Their primary focus is to transport him and provide him with a dignified burial and memorial.

Melvin was a hardworking individual with a deep commitment to supporting his family. He aspired to help his mother, who suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, and his greatest wish was to be reunited with his young son.

Described by his family as loving and nurturing, Melvin often took on the role of caregiver, providing assistance with household needs and childcare. He was filled with energy and had a passion for the outdoors, often riding bikes and playing outside with his younger cousins in both Texas and Maryland.

Melvin lived in a close-knit household with his extended family of nine in Maryland. His aunt remembers him as a disciplined young man who always responded with "yes, Tia" when asked to help around the house. His cousin from Texas expressed that he was like another brother to her, recalling fond memories of their adventures together, including bike rides and snowball fights with her children. His cousin shared “Despite not having snow gloves, Melvin would creatively fashion mittens for his baby cousins to participate in the fun of snowball fights during the Texas Winter,” “That's the type of cousin he was, always finding creative ways for the kids to have fun despite our low budget.”

The Chavez Paz family says Melvin's high energy and loving personality created a positive impact on the family, helping to raise many of the children with kindness and care. Melvin’s spirit will be deeply missed, and the family is grateful for any monetary support in remembering him as they navigate this difficult time.
