Help reunite pregnant couple separated by lockdown
Donation protected
Dear beautiful online community,
I have started this GoFundMe for some dear friends of mine, who are currently in a predicament caused by COVID-19 lockdown and the travel ban. Taiga, a young man originally from Castlemaine in Victoria, and Sina, a young woman from Guben, in Germany, are blessed to be bringing a new little human into this world. In January 2020, Sina was compelled to leave Australia by the conditions of her Tourist Visa. She chose to do a visa run in New Zealand. Her initial plan of re-entering Australia on a partnership Visa later in the year was affected through the discovery of their pregnancy. They started planning to reunite back in Australia to sort out the paperwork for a partnership Visa and the arrival of their child. Before the young couple could enact their plans, the travel ban came into effect.
After months of turmoil, the pregnant couple still find themselves separated by the Tazman sea. To date, all three attempts Taiga has made to enter NZ have been denied. Sina made a similar request to the Australian government, which was also denied. After paying a total of $1100 to an esteemed immigration law firm, a second exemption request was submitted, with an abundance of supporting documents (procured at extra costs). Despite being 33 weeks pregnant and holding a valid Australian Tourist Visa, the latest request was denied within 24 hours. Heartbroken, the couple have one last chance to submit a third request, it might just be their last hope for Taiga to be there for the birth of his first child.
This necessitates the completion of a relationship registration form, which in turn requires significant proof of identification. As Sina is not in Australia, producing this ID is another costly expense, as is the relationship registration form itself. Should this request be approved, Sina must still purchase and board a flight to Sydney. She will also have to cover the costs of mandatory quarantine, which will amount to a combined total of around $4000. All this is to occur before the partnership Visa is even considered. This Visa is the only legal means by which Sina can gain the right to medical coverage and permanent residency in Australia, both of which are of the utmost importance to an expecting mother. The partnership Visa usually incurs a cost of $8000 - $10000.
Sina is expecting to give birth around the end of September, which is the same time her NZ Visa expires. She also has no medical coverage in NZ and she will have none in Australia until the application for a partnership Visa is submitted. The only barrier between the pregnant couple is the COVID-19 travel ban, which is why they need your help and support. Working together with their immigration lawyer, a third request for a travel ban exemption is underway.
In addition to the emotional ordeal this young couple are undergoing, there are also mounting legal costs. Although Taiga has been able to keep working and saving throughout the lockdown, he is very apprehensive of potentially running out of money before the child arrives. If you feel inspired to contribute to the many financial burdens of this new family, your support would be greatly appreciated.
Warm regards from Amariah,
on behalf of Taiga, Sina and their little one.
Much Love.
