Update as of 2/28/25:
We want to thank each and every one of you for the outpouring of love, support and prayers you’ve given!
On Tuesday the 25, a beautiful morning, my dad was able to spend some time outside and enjoy a small breakfast and cup of coffee. When finished, he surprisingly wanted to go for a short walk. We walked from the rear of the house to the front and during that time, he wrapped his arms around Laura and myself, Jason, and said, “I’m ready to go home”.
We had a small window of time with him for final conversations, big hugs, and lots of love. That evening he insisted on a shower, deodorant, his cologne, and brushing his teeth. He had prepped himself the way dad does even though physically, it required two of us to make it all happen.
From Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening, dad slept most of the time. As he lay in his bedroom chair with worship music in the background, the window open and birds chirping, he was able to receive some phone calls from his girls and listen to how much they loved him.
His wife and my wife by his side comforted him along with his dog Corky and our dog Coasta. At 10:26 Wednesday evening, Reverend Al Horta took his last breath on earth and began his celebration in heaven! Less than 12 hrs later, our beloved Coasta, our yellow lab who was fighting cancer along side dad, also passed on. It was as if he was waiting for my dad before he too surrendered. I add that detail here because who would have expected to let go of two loved ones in the same house around the same time; yet, while there were tears and sadness, there was and has been this incredible joy and peace that was with us that night and continues with us each day! The joy of the Lord is and has been our strength! It’s been an incredible honor to not just care for my dad so intimately, but to watch him walk out his faith each and every day, never wavering. The night before he passed, he told me, “Jason, tell them I didn’t die of cancer, I died because I surrendered to the Lord and was ready to go home”. While my dad fought spiritually and physically through this battle, one that at first seems he didn’t win, he never once lost hope or faith and finished his race with so much reverence for the Lord! He did receive his healing, it was just on the other side of heaven. Praise God! What a glorious and triumphant entry into the Kingdom of God for a man who didn’t quit or waiver in his greatest earthly battle! I call that an absolute victory!
We are leaving the fund open for a little while longer as we finalize funeral arrangements and ensure all financial requirements are met. Your continued offerings are greatly appreciated!
Again, I want to thank you for your prayers, love, and support! The many stories of how my dad has blessed some of you has been such a blessing to all of us!
Original Fundraiser Message:
Dear friends, family, ministry supporters, and kind-hearted strangers,
We are reaching out to ask for your support for our dear friend and loved one, Rev. Al Horta, who was recently diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Al has been courageously facing this battle, standing firm in faith and walking out every truth of God’s Word he has ministered on all these years. As he faces one of the most challenging and painful of times in life for anyone, it has been a blessing and honor to watch him walk out his faith, never waiver, and stand firm giving God all the glory as he witnesses to every nurse and Dr. he’s been in contact with.
While he has been battling strong spiritually, he has also been undergoing physical treatments that are best suited for his particular situation. These of course come at a cost along with end of life preparations and ensuring all financial responsibilities are met and ensuring his wife is taken care of.
Why We Need Your Help:
We’re reaching out to you, our extended family and community, to ask for your help. Donations will go towards his current treatments, past medical expenses if needed, and to ensure that all ministry and personal expenses are covered along with all end of life requirements whenever that time may arise. All monies left over will go to support his wife, Laura, as she begins life without her best friend and husband.
A little background on Al:
Al is not only a devoted husband and father, but also a minister of God’s Word who has spent over 40 years serving both his community and strangers alike with unwavering faith and compassion. He has dedicated his life to helping others through an obedience to Jesus, leading of the Holy Spirit, ministry, and prayer. Whether through the simple tracts left behind for the next person that comes along, his preaching, books, videos, counseling, or simply offering a helping hand to those in need, Al has touched hundreds of thousands through his ministry, putting others and God first, even in his own personal struggles.
In his role as a pastor, and later, as a travel minister, Al has been a source of spiritual guidance and comfort to so many people, especially in times of crisis. He has been there for countless individuals and families, offering love, prayer, and support during their darkest moments. Now, as he faces his own battle with cancer, it is our turn to show him the same love and support he has always shown others. It is our hope that we can come together to be a pillar of support for him and his wife, Laura, and his family during this challenging time. His faith has remained strong through his diagnosis, and with our help, he can go home to God’s glory knowing that his family left behind will be without the added burden of financial stress and his incredibly loving and caring wife will be taken care of financially.
Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference in Al’s fight against cancer. If you are unable to donate, your faith-filled prayers and sharing of this page with others is a great way to help spread the word and show your support.
We are so grateful for your giving and appreciate all the love and prayers sent our way.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. May God bless you and return to you your offering in abundant measure
Update from Son, Jason Horta:
During the proofing of this prior to posting, our Dad’s condition has suddenly turned. He has been staying with his son, Jason and his wife since Sept 2024. Close family and friends have come to visit and dad’s battle has been fiercely fought. However, as of today, February 25, 2025, Al has made peace with the current situation and asked the Lord to take him home. He is home and under the loving care of his family - no easy task for family members in his current condition, but worth every moment to “honor your father” as we’ve been commanded to do. To those who love him, know that he has been honored, extremely loved and cared for each and every day and will continue to be until the Lord calls him home. While you may be saddened to read this as I am writing it, know that his reward is waiting for him. My dad would tell you to not cry, but celebrate because “I have fought my fight of faith honorably and my new life is about to start with a glorified body”! If you know him, he’d be ministering to you right now, lifting you up, so be at peace knowing that he’s at peace and will soon be home with Abba Father! Amen!
Sincerely,
The Horta Family
