UPDATES REGARDING SKATEPARK!
We got some good news from a recent Sand Park Control Board Meeting stating that there are not plans to remove the skatepark. The next part of the decision process is deciding what the best method of repairing the park is or to try for a larger grant and replace it entirely. The Rec has made significant progress with their bottle and can drive to obtain funds for this project as well and are still collecting. I would actually like to aim higher and collect more funds to distribute accordingly as this project is expected to cost much more than expected. At this time I am asking my neighbors, friends, and family to make a financial contribution to help resurface or replace the Manistee skatepark.
The asphalt is now aging, cracking, and dangerous. With the recent support from the Sands Park Control Board, we are hopeful that skatepark will get the improvement it needs to become useable again for skaters, young and old, or find a new solution entirely. But deciding the next best move is next on the agenda. As an experienced skater I have skated on this old asphalt and walked away with bloody hands, knees, and torn clothes, due to the rough and pitted surface of the asphalt.
The skatepark was a great community project 20 years ago and provided an opportunity for people to hone their skills, get fresh air, exercise, and enjoy a fun activity right in their backyard. I am hopeful that with the collaboration of all interested parties this skatepark can return to its original glory or get a larger grant and build a new park so another generation will be able to enjoy this park. Every donation big or small will make a substantial difference in contributing to this project. Thank you so much in advance for any and all donations.
*Update
Notification to donors, if the project does not come to fruition in it's planned capacity, you are agreeing for your donation to go to general funds to The Rec at Sand Park or to the new skatepark and/or equipment for kids using the skatepark. I will remain transparent with where the funding goes through updates or uploads of any money going out. If you donate as anonymous you might not get updates with future developments and those donations by default will automatically go to The Rec or the new park. Please reach out if you have any questions, there is a Contacts Tab in Gofundme that will send me an email and I will respond promptly. Thank you so much and sorry for the confusion.
**Disclaimer
I am a private citizen interested in collecting donations for The Rec at Sands Park. I do not represent The Rec, any agency, or organization, but will deliver all acquired funds to The Rec or new skatepark project upon reaching the goal.
