Help revive Saratoga's iconic Grasso's Italian Ice truck

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Italian Ice Lovers,

Do you remember the sweet melodies of the Grasso’s ice cream truck rolling down the streets of Saratoga during those warm summer days of your childhood? If you grew up in Saratoga Springs, chances are you have fond memories of chasing after that familiar sound of the ‘bell’, eagerly anticipating your favorite Italian Ice flavor.

For decades, that ice cream truck has been an iconic fixture in our city. First operated by an Italian immigrant, Ralph W. Grasso Sr., this 1954 International Harvester truck has brought joy and nostalgia to generations of Saratoga residents. Its presence is not just a memory but a cherished part of our collective identity.

The Grasso Family would like to continue the Italian Ice business that a lot of you remember. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll on our beloved ice cream truck. Years of wear and tear have left it in desperate need of restoration. That's why we're asking for help.

We are hoping to raise funds for the restoration of our community's iconic ice cream truck. Our goal is simple: to ensure that future generations can experience the same joy and excitement that we did when we heard the familiar jingle of the ice cream truck approaching.

By contributing to this campaign, you're not just helping to refurbish a vintage vehicle; you're preserving a piece of Saratoga's history. You're keeping alive the traditions and memories that make our neighborhood unique. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Whether you're a longtime resident who remembers the ice cream truck from your own childhood or a newcomer who wants to help preserve our community's heritage, we invite you to join us in this endeavor.

Here’s our plan: The frame is perfectly fine. They did it right back then. Things like the brake system (EXTREMELY important, don’t you think) will be completely overhauled. It is a 6V system and will be changed to a 12V system, making possible better lighting options. The same motor will be rebuilt. The body will have all the dents removed (a lot happens in 70 years) and painted the colors that it has had for 50 years…Red, White, and Blue. As far as the freezers, compressor, storage areas (things needed to make it an ‘Ice Cream Truck’), they will be incorporated into the project.

The cost of the project is $28,300. We will start the renovation in the fall and plan to have it completed in time for the 2025 season.

Together, we can ensure that the sound of the ice cream truck's bell continues to echo through the streets of Saratoga for years to come. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
The Grasso Family
