Help Rhia get to Year Out Drama

I need your generosity and kindness to help me gain important training that will shape my journey in pursuing acting, by making this a reality for me. As you can imagine, I was over the moon to find out that I had been offered a place for Year Out Drama and the possibilities of what could be, and continue, to play out in my head. As I have been working hard towards drama school auditions for the past three years, this course might be my only opportunity to access full-time, intensive acting and drama training that I will need to pursue Acting as a career professionally.I will be able to meet and learn from industry professionals throughout the course, I will get to perform at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatres, doing possibly 9 shows in lots of different styles, I will be able grow and develop as a performer, I will become even more disciplined and focused on my craft and I will potentially be able to start my professional career. Something that I am proud of within my journey so far is that I have worked hard and earned my opportunities, through determination and supporting myself financially. And with this, I am determined to make it happen. This is where I need your help. I’ve always been a believer that money should never stop anyone from achieving success, and I’ve worked to provide myself with the funds to pursue my goals, as my family have given me as much support as they can, but I’d be lying if I said we are able to afford anything like this. My reality is that we can not.
I am needing to raise £7,500 to fund my tuition fees at Year Out Drama, to start in September. “Are you mental?!” I hear you say, well yes maybe a little bit. But because Year Out Drama is a Not for Profit Social Enterprise Company - there is no financial support available - which means I am going to put in every ounce of energy and passion I have into raising this money myself. From working really hard to save money (which I will continue to work full-time hours through to September) and the support from my family, I will be able to secure some money towards my living costs in Stratford Upon Avon. I understand times are hard at the moment, but any amount of donations that you will be able to generously support me with will make the world of difference, I would be hugely grateful for everything, £1's add up. I need to say a massive thank you in advance for reading so far as well as for any help you are able to give me - if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be able to do this. I would be so grateful for your help and I can promise you that I will continue to work my hardest and make the most out of this training.
Who am I?
I’m Rhia, I’ve lived in North Manchester my whole life in a little town called Middleton. Don’t worry, no one’s ever really heard of it either. Drama had always been the subject I loved the most, it was the only thing I really cared about. Everyone that knew me through highschool, knew that I was passionate about drama and took it very seriously, so when I was told by my drama teacher at the time “It’s really hard to even get a B, let alone an A*” - I obviously had to prove him wrong. And I did. I was the only person to get an A* in drama because I worked for it. And that sums me up, and has followed me throughout my journey. I have been constantly finding new ways to gain more experience and to become a better actor, and I used my time at college as a way to gain confidence and the skills to pursue acting once I’d left, through doing LAMDA exams, school productions and putting my all into Theatre A-Level. When I left college, I turned into fighter mode when it came to getting experience and more training - anything I could get my fingers stuck into, I would. I was a part of the Lowry’s National Theatre’s Connections Group from 2016-2019, where I was able to gain valuable experience performing on a professional stage in front of hundreds of people whilst getting to do what I love. I have attended regular training with the wonderful ‘Both Feet’ in Manchester, where I was able to learn a new technique and methodology towards acting but also be taken seriously as an emerging professional. The support from the amazing tutor, Stephanie Morgan, is one of the reasons I’m still pursuing it today and has been instrumental in my journey. I have done amateur dramatics with Manchester Musical Youth theatre where I have been able to develop my acting, singing and dancing skills as well as securing my first professional job with NWTAC doing ‘Sleeping Beauty’ as Prince Philip over Christmas that gave me a boost of confidence and shaped me to be a flexible performer. I have written my own play and had opportunities to perform it in-front of an audience as well as writing for other theatre companies in Manchester throughout the past few months. My recent adventure has been working for The Lowry as a freelance artist in the ‘Stage Directions’ programme where I have been trained as an Arts Award Advisor and I am an ensemble assistant for a group of young people. As you can tell...I’ve been keeping myself busy. All the while, I had a 40 hour job as a supervisor at the very well known, strong smelling, Lush store so I was able to support myself financially to be able to do all of those things. Even when I worked fulltime at Lush, I found opportunities to further myself by taking part in their huge conventions dressed as a life-size bath bomb and prancing around as a Christmas elf- developing skills in character acting. I don’t like to define myself by class or anything like that, but I’ll be honest that I’m not from a well-off background which I’ve discovered makes getting into the acting business even harder. But nothing worth it should be easy. And I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t worked hard and put the effort in.
