Help Rhona McCrae's Family

Rhona McCrae is a mother of three, a wife and is also a person with disabilities. She has had many ups and downs in her life but has always put the needs of others before herself. Rhona used to be a factory worker in Oshawa, Ontario before becoming laid off and needed to make a substantial career change in adulthood. Without hesitation, she managed to put herself through school getting multiple diplomas in Social Service Worker and Personal Support Worker to try and help her community.
As Rhona slowly started making headway in her second career, the cancer struck. Now being forced out of work for the second time, as she tried to care for herself. Fortunately, she was able to beat cancer. However, the physical and emotional toll it took out of her to fight cancer caused a host of additional medical conditions which has left her in constant pain. The pain has become so unbearable she is unable to work, unable to enjoy all the activities she once did with her family and struggles to even enjoy the company of her grandchild without having to spend weeks in bed recovering.
Today, we are asking if you could look into the kindness of your heart to help give her some of the amenities required to simply make her day-to-day life a little bit more bearable to cope with her pain management.
Over the past few years Rhona and her husband have been trying to save up in order to invest in an accessible washroom. With only one income and the cost of living it became very difficult for them to save up the money required to redo their washroom. During the fall of 2020, Rhona and her husband received a notice from the Municipality that their roof was not up to standards and required it to be
replaced. Throughout the remainder of 2020 and into early 2021, they had managed to complete 70% of the work themselves. With a due date in the middle of January approaching they were unfortunately unable to finish the remainder of the work. A contractor of the city came and ripped off all the existing work completed by the family & redid the roof. All the time, effort and money already put into the roof was simply ripped off and thrown in the garbage. To make matters worse, the contractor billed the city for things they did not do. The Municipality charged the family $7,500.00 for the work and materials.
We have a pretty lofty goal we are trying to hit for Rhona. I know our community can rally behind her and give her what she needs to enjoy her life as much as she can through the pain. We need $40,000.00 to help her rebuild her main floor washroom with all the accessible upgrades required. We have broken down the costs we are trying to help support through this GoFundMe.
Goal
1. $2,500.00 – Recover cost for all the supplies purchased by the family
2. $7,500.00 – Cost for the bill to fix their roof from the city
3. $40,000.00 – rough estimates to cover the cost of the installation of an accessible bathroom
with any remaining funds going towards making the rest of the house more accessible.
We really appreciate anything you can do to help support Rhona. We understand that times are tight for a lot of people during a global pandemic. Please if you can find any way to help support it would be greatly appreciated. If you are not in a position financially to help support the GoFundMe please take a moment to share the link to your social media network to help raise awareness for the cause and to give Rhona the amenities she needs.
