Help Rhonda and Chad Save Their Family Home

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

I am reaching out on behalf of my Aunt Rhonda and her son, Chad, who are facing an urgent and heartbreaking situation. Today, they need our collective support to keep the only home they've ever known.

Chad, now 39, entered this world prematurely and was diagnosed with Pyruvate Carboxylase deficiency—a rare metabolic disorder. From the very beginning, doctors offered little hope. His early years were a blur of hospital stays, with Chad spending 8 hours every night connected to an IV. His fragile health led to multiple instances where his heart stopped, causing significant brain damage. Medical experts believed he would never sit up, crawl, walk, or talk.

Over the years he learned to navigate his surroundings by rolling, then sitting up with support, crawling, and even taking a few steps. He has managed to learn 2-3 words, though meaningful communication remains a challenge. Chad has always required 24/7 supervision and will continue to for the remainder of his life.

Rhonda, Chad's devoted mother, has been his primary caregiver since day one. They lived with Rhonda's parents in their family home that was purchased in 1976. Her older brother and sister resided nearby, offering invaluable assistance over the years. However, the family faced a series of devastating losses:
  • In the early 2000s, both parents developed dementia and Alzheimer's, passing away in 2013 and 2014.
  • In 2015, Rhonda's brother succumbed to cancer.
  • Rhonda's sister moved into the family home to help with Chad but tragically passed away from a heart attack in September 2023 while by Chad's hospital bedside.

These losses have left Rhonda alone, bearing the weight of caregiving and mounting financial responsibilities.

Over the years, essential home repairs forced the family to take out a mortgage against the house. With Rhonda's sister's retirement and social security as their primary income sources, they managed, albeit barely. Now, with her sister gone and no life insurance to cushion the blow, Rhonda faces an insurmountable financial burden: mortgage payments, utilities, property taxes, and daily living expenses.

Chad's health took a severe hit in May 2023 when he was hospitalized for pneumonia and a subsequent severe bout of COVID-19. His hospitalization spanned almost four months, leaving him weaker and less mobile. Rhonda receives minimal state assistance and given Chad's needs, cannot seek external employment. She relies on kind-hearted friends for brief periods to run errands or resorts to costly delivery services. While some family members try to assist financially, it's not sustainable.

The bank is on the verge of foreclosing on their cherished home if any payment is missed. This house isn't just bricks and mortar; it's a sanctuary filled with memories, love, and the only stable environment Chad has ever known.

If foreclosure happens, Rhonda and Chad will have nowhere to go. No family or friends have space to take them in, and there are long waitlists for retirement homes or other alternative housing. Even if they found a place, the environment in such facilities would likely be difficult and dangerous for Chad, whose fragile health and unique needs require a safe, familiar setting.

Our goal is to raise $200,000 or more to:
  • Settle the mortgage and prevent foreclosure.
  • Cover overdue utility bills and property taxes.
  • Address essential home repairs ensuring a safe environment for Chad.
  • Provide a financial cushion to support their daily living expenses.

Any amount you can give, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to our goal. You can also assist by helping spread the word by sharing this campaign on social media, with friends, and within your communities. And please continue to send your prayers, well-wishes, and messages of encouragement as they mean the world to Rhonda and Chad.

Rhonda and Chad have faced life's harshest challenges with grace, resilience, and an unbreakable bond. Now, as they stand on the precipice of losing their home, we have the power to make a tangible difference. Let's come together to ensure they continue to have a place to call home.

From the depths of our hearts, we thank you for taking the time to read their story and for any support you can provide.

Sincerely,
The Hall Family
