On 3/3/2021, my dad Rick began having trouble talking and was in severe pain. He was transported to the hospital in Sugar Land and found to have a large mass inside his brain. He was transported to Baylor Downtown for immediate brain surgery to remove the tumor. After it was removed he recovered well, but was told to return in 3 weeks to see if it was malignant. After 3 weeks we were told that they didn’t know what kind of cancer it was (which surprised the doctors at Baylor). After another 3 weeks we finally had an answer…it was a 90% probability of Melanoma (Yes skin cancer) that was now in his brain. However, later that day he again had a severe headache and went to the ER only to find out the full mass had returned in 6 weeks. He again had brain surgery to remove the tumor and immediately started radiation therapy and was sent to a Melanoma specialist. Doctors could not find any sign of skin cancer on his body and have no explanation for it being in his brain. Primary brain Melanoma is considered 0.07% of all cancers. A little over another 6 weeks after the second surgery he began having severe nausea and was admitted again to Baylor. They found more small tumors in another area of his brain that were not operable. He also started whole brain radiation and immunotherapy. All this has depleted him and my 17 year old sister of funds and he is struggling to make ends meet. We ask for any help.
