Help Rick of Mint Condition Launch His Solo Album
Donation protected
UPDATE: Rick has raised enough funds to hire a PR person and produce the video (above) to release one of his singles, "PREY" on his soon to be released album titled "Truth Behind The Lies." This is just one step in making the full album a reality. We still need your support and contributions. Thank you. Keep donating and sharing.
Our friend, Rick Rock is the bass player from the legendary band, Mint Condition. A multi platinum and Grammy Award nominated artist, Rick is not only a musical genius, but in recent years has begun to use his celebrity as an activist in the fight for racial justice in Minnesota. Rick is in the process of finishing up his first solo album, ‘Truth Behind the Lies’ and he is reaching out to our community for support.
Launching, producing and promoting a solo album is a huge undertaking and will require resources. Rick is at a point where he’s ready for radio and social media promotion of his album, and he is seeking $45,000 in contributions to do so. Your support will go a long way in helping Rick fulfill his goal.
From Humble Beginnings to Success in Music
Rick grew up on the Southside of Chicago as one of 14 children, living in a two bedroom house. He shared clothes with his siblings and his bed was the couch. Growing up where he did, he saw many people head down the wrong path in life. This was almost his own fate when he got involved with gangs in his early teens. His brother intervened, telling him to get himself back to school and get a job, so that’s exactly what he did.
Rick moved to Minneapolis and used his talent, pursuing a career in music. It was here that he joined the band, Mint Condition. A few years later, he signed a record deal with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis from ‘The Time’, who were the producers of Janet Jackson’s album ‘Rhythm Nation’, along with many other successful hits. Mint Condition had their first hit, ‘Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)’ in 1992, which became #1 on the Billboard sales chart - over Michael Jackson and Prince.
About Mint Condition
Mint Condition had hits in three different decades. They are a multi-platinum band and were nominated for a Grammy in 2017. The band was about to have its biggest year financially after their Grammy nomination, but it was time for one of the members to go solo. It was at this point that Rick also decided the time had come for him to pursue his own solo career.
About Rick Rock
In the quieter times when the band wasn’t working, Rick was able to secure a distribution deal, management and crew; in addition to co-writing the group’s last four albums. His career has seen him work, tour and share the stage with some stellar artists. Toni Braxton, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, Sheila E, rapper Brother Ali and Bobbi Brown to name a few. In 2018, Rick played bass for Soul Asylum on their ‘Rock n Roll Express’ tour, one of the biggest rock tours that year, with 3 Doors Down and Collective Soul. A highlight was in 2010 when Prince invited the band to join him on his ‘Welcome to America’ tour, which saw the legendary artist join the group on stage to play with them.
During the course of his career, Rick has visited South Korea, Iraq, Kuwait, and Japan, giving back to men and women serving our country and giving them a piece of home. He has been involved in community activism and volunteered for Nekima Levy Armstrong’s campaign for Mayor of Minneapolis in 2017.
Rick is now calling upon our community to help make his solo album a smashing success. Please contribute what you can! Thank you in advance for your support.
