Help Rick & Jay with medical and funeral expenses

Rick Rabon is a highly respected Austin realtor who has been in the business since 2012. In 2015, Rick became a member of Realty Austin, where he expanded both his business and circle of friends. Recognized for his unwavering integrity and collaborative nature, Rick has a knack for finding innovative solutions. Additionally, his playful sense of humor has made him a popular figure among colleagues and clients alike.

Recently and unexpectedly, Rick received a cancer diagnosis and went to MD Anderson for a consult, and to develop a treatment plan which was expected to span 3 months. We knew Rick would be unable to work during this time. In order to be by Rick's side in Houston and provide support throughout his treatment, Rick’s husband Jay made the difficult decision to resign from his teaching position. To assist with financial burdens during this challenging time, his Realty Austin family established this GoFundMe Page. Originally, the thought was to raise $30,000 to cover their living expenses while Rick was in treatment and to help offset the out-of-pocket portion of Rick’s medical expenses. Sadly, Rick's cancer had progressed much further than anyone imagined. He began the painful radiation treatments but never even made it to the chemotherapy phase. Our dear friend Rick Rabon lost his very short battle with esophageal cancer on Thursday, June 8.

To help with funeral costs and end-of-life expenses, I am increasing our goal to $40,000.

A little about Rick and Jay:

Rick has resided in East Austin/Windsor Park since 1992. He is married to Jay Bullington, an Austin ISD dyslexia specialist with seventeen years of experience in education. They met in Houston, where Jay resided, and quickly became a couple. Jay relocated to Austin in 1998 to join Rick, resulting in over twenty-five years of shared happiness.

These two Eastsiders proudly call themselves doggie daddies. They fell in love with Justice, a terrier mix, in 2016. During COVID, they adopted Astro, a chihuahua mix, to be Justice's sibling, becoming a family of four.

Rick and Jay find joy in spending leisure time with friends, playing games, movie nights, and indulging in delicious food.
