Help Rida Attend Graduate School.

Hello friends, family, UWC and Luther peers, and my wider diasporic community,

 

I hope that you are safe and taking good care of yourselves. I reach out to you today because I am in need of your help. I am Rida Naz from Karachi, Pakistan. I am a recent graduate of Luther College’21. I also attended UWC Adriatic from 2015 to 2017. Coming from a working-class family, I always had to work hard to support myself and my family. Most of my education has been possible due to the scholarships and recognition of various institutions, thus now I am in need of your help to go back to school in the fall.

 

Soon after I graduated from Luther College, I had to come back to Pakistan due to the medical emergency of my mother as well as financial instability. Another major reason for my arrival was the COVID 19 pandemic and after losing my work-study I relied on to sustain myself in the USA. I wasn’t ready to give up on my dreams so I managed to apply to several graduate schools all last year. Although, I got accepted to Seattle University to pursue a master's in Accounting and Analytics last year, unfortunately, I had to defer my acceptance to Fall 2022 because I did not have the sufficient funds to attend right away. I needed some financial options so I started looking for work-study and student loans simultaneously. Thankfully, I have been offered work-study but my student loan was rejected on account for one reason. My credit card charges….

 

Unfortunately, the credit card I used during my time at Luther College was charged all of last year while I was in Pakistan, and now my student loans won't get approved till those charges are settled. It has been very difficult for me to get in contact with a credit card company from Pakistan and my work here does not pay enough to save up or pay my tuition or the card. Especially due to the high exchange rate of PKR into USD. The amount has come down to $2500 and it will only be possible for me if I pay in full, they'll remove the charge and I can apply for the student loan again. In this way, the loan application will also get approved for my master's program. This can only happen once the credit card is settled.

 

So I ask you to support me in this dire situation, contributions of any amount will be greatly appreciated and welcomed, as well as sharing this with whoever you feel may have the will and capacity to assist my family and I.
