Help Riley Battle Cancer - Round Two!

Oh hi, I'm Phanie. I'm fundraising to support my dearest friend Riley "Gaijira" in his battle against cancer. Again.

 

Back in the Fall of 2021, Riley was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had urgent surgery, with luckily no chemo or radiation at the time. It was a scary few months, and he got through it with the support of great doctors, his loving family, his internet friends, and of course, his amazing wife, Sayu.

 

Riley's doctors have been keeping a close eye on him since and recently learned his cancer is back. CT scanning showed metastases in the retroperitoneal lymph nodes. The good news is he got into Japan's # 1 hospital that specializes in cancer, and they explained this type of cancer has a high percentage of being cured.

 

The difference with this new cancer is the treatment will be much, much more difficult. Riley will need a long and invasive surgery called retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND), which his doctors say is one of the most invasive surgeries in urology. Almost immediately after the surgery, Riley will then go through a powerful round of chemotherapy. This chemo round will be so strong that he'll need to stay at the hospital for three or more weeks to isolate completely while his immune system is wiped out.

 

So here's where you come in! Riley is about to go through an extremely challenging journey and needs our support. He will need to take at least six months off work for the surgery, chemo and recovery. And starting basically right away! Next week will be filled with tests and getting ready, and then his hospital admission date is already March 28th. The goal of this fundraiser is to make sure Riley can focus his energy entirely on getting well. We want to make sure he does not have to worry about lost wages, rent payments and the upcoming medical bills. He's gonna be busy fighting his cancer as hard as he can!

 

Riley is the beneficiary of any money raised, and it will go directly into his account. I'm just helping to organize the behind-the-scenes and update the GoFundMe when he's focusing on more important things.
