Help Rob fight ALS

First and foremost Rob is an amazing father and husband to Charlie 10, Grace 8 and my beautiful sister Missy.  August 6th, 2020 we received the devastating news that Rob was diagnosed with ALS.  ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord causing the loss of muscle control.  Patients with ALS quickly progress with muscle failure and lose the ability to walk, talk and eventually breath. 

Rob immediately decided he is willing to do whatever it takes to spend as much time with his family as possible.  Even though ALS is a terminal disease with a life expectancy of 2-5 years there are some recent trials that have proven effective with halting the progression of muscle failure.  Unfortunately, the treatments have not yet been approved by the FDA and we are praying they will soon be passed.  These treatments are very costly and the Survick family is going to need help from friends, family and our community.  Rob has been receiving non traditional treatments that are not covered through insurance (yet) that are showing promise.  Rob has currently lost the use of one arm and partial muscle control of his other arm.  We are praying through treatment he can halt or slow down the progression of ALS. 

Missy and Rob have decided they want to stay in their home in Arizona to keep life as normal as possible for Charlie and Grace.  The downstairs renovation is complete and handicap accessible and smart allowing Rob to maintain as much independence as possible.  A big thank you to Tactical Renovation in Chandler,  AZ for completing the project and adjusting to unique needs on the fly.  

Rob grew up as a competitive gymnast and competed for Arizona State University for his four years there.  He currently coaches gymnastics at ASU and their local gym Aspire Kids Sports center where he dedicates his time to enriching children’s lives through gymnastics.   Rob will continue to work as long as he can as it is important to him to give back.
