I want to tell you a quick story of a man with such an incredible caring heart. I have only know him for basically 3 months now. But his story is amazing and the size of his HEART even bigger.
At 35 years old Robert Ford was in a car accident that left him in a coma for 2 weeks. His doctors did not think he would survive. He broke his neck in four places, separated his spine, broke his collar bone, and pulled both hips away from his body. When he woke from his coma, he realized he would be paralyzed for the rest of his life, and he did not want to live that way. He went through a year and half of therapy to learn to cope with his situation. He was taught how to sit up, use his hands as best as he could, and how to maneuver in his wheelchair. After rehab though, Robert began to give up once again. There was no one to assist him. He turned to God. He prayed, asking God to teach him how to live like this. Robert made a promise to God that he would live for Him and tell the world how GREAT HE IS!
I share his story because Robert has done something very special for a young 14 year old boy that is also full time wheelchair. Robert gave him his chair as a GIFT! Now the young boy, with muscular dystrophy, has a level of independent freedom like never before.
Robert is very upfront as to why he had not already given it away OR sold the chair (which is worth 10's of thousands of dollars). Robert easily could use the money. His current van is in poor shape...I've seen it, with 145,000+ miles and numerous issues like having to tie a rope to the door because the automatic door doesn't work and is too expensive to fix, etc., etc., Haven't we all been there at some point in our life? We all need money but... Robert has such a profound relationship with Christ, and through this relationship God told Robert to keep the chair and he would be instructed on whom to give it to.
Eight months later.....while Robert was at the store having adjustments to his chair, my wife and I came into the store. We were overwhelmed in trying to make a decision on a chair for our son Dutch..... we met Robert. Yes, its my son who Robert gave his chair to.
I was stumped on such a random act of kindness from a complete stranger. Honestly....I didn't believe it at first. Told him to send me some pics and I'll take a look at it, even offered to pay something for it.
Robert just chuckled and said..... "Mr. Scott, stop trying to bless me with me giving you this here chair..... See, I've already been blessed."
Amazing man and amazing story of kindness and looking for nothing in return.
I am asking for your help.
Please help me with raising money to get Robert a new disability van to drive.
