Help Robert Rebuild After His Mother’s Passing
Last week, my cousin, Robert Goode-Williams, lost his beloved mother, my aunt, Barbara Polk. For the past 10 years, Robert dedicated his life to being her full-time caregiver, a role that not only provided her the love and stability she desperately needed but also gave her a sense of dignity after years of navigating the challenges of mental health care.
Robert was compensated by the government for his caregiving role, but with Barbara’s passing, his income and medical benefits were abruptly cut off. He has spent his entire savings to cover funeral expenses, which total $12,000, and he is now facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding his life while dealing with his own serious health challenges.
Robert has type 2 diabetes, Sarcoidosis, Neurosarcoidosis, and a severely bulging disc in his spine that causes him constant pain. Despite these hardships, he powered through every day to ensure his mother was cared for. Now, without a safety net, he needs our help.
This fundraiser aims to raise $20,000 to:
1. Cover the $12,000 funeral expenses.
2. Help Robert maintain his home and basic necessities as he transitions to finding a new job.
3. Provide a buffer while he applies for government assistance and other resources in the meantime.
4. Ensure he has access to his costly medications to manage his health conditions during this critical period.
Robert gave so much of himself to care for his mother, and now it’s our turn to give back to him. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in helping him rebuild his life and ensure he doesn’t lose his home during this time of profound grief and transition.
