Help Robyn Receive Neccesary Care

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tarah and I'm organizing on behalf of my good friend, Robyn Coleman. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Robyn Coleman has three more medically necessary surgeries left in her journey to fix significant hip dysplasia and impingement with labral tears. She had complications from previous surgeries and requires two of the surgeries from the American Hip Institute in Chicago.

Robyn waited six months from her initial consultation with the American Hip Institute for her insurance to change types to allow her to have the first two surgeries covered in Chicago. Health care systems do not allow a change in insurance types with your employer without a life event. HMO plans do not cover services out of state. Apparently requiring surgery out of state by a specialist isn’t a life event. She waited in pain and missed out on many desired activities and had to leave her gym that she loved for the excitement of January first to schedule her appointment. When she called, she discovered that Anthem did not cover a part of the surgery,
due to its’ “ experimental nature.” IE using a robot for a less invasive procedure. Due to this, the Hip Institute charges $5,000 per surgery in addition to her coinsurance, deductible, and cost of staying for three days in a hotel for a family member.

Her first surgery is 1/31 and she will have to have the second 6-8 weeks after, equaling to 10,000 due total by 2/28/24. Robyn has paid into insurance since she had a job and was required to at 18 years of age. She works hard as a School Psychologist within the Cincinnati Public Schools system. She often carries a second job to carry her expenses for her home. This is an example of how our insurance and healthcare system has failed the average person. This can only be changed by voting for issues and people who will support doing what is right to make sure that every single person who needs medical care can access it. Please help support
Robyn in her journey to get back to the life she enjoys. Anything will help.
