Help Rocky in the fight against FIP
Donation protected
Rocky is our one year old baby cat. His second birthday will be June 8th 2022. 2 weeks ago Rocky saw the vet for a well visit and everything seemed normal. A week later I noticed his belly look bloated and took him back to the vet. They suspected heart failure and sent me to an emergency vet with specialists that would be able to better assist him. He stayed overnight there while they monitored him and did extensive testing. Ultimately they decided he was not experiencing heart failure but his heart was being compromised from FIP. So FIP was the final diagnosis. Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
For many years this diagnosis has been a death sentence for cats. We were fortunate enough to be told to check out FIP Warriors for possible treatment of this brutal disease. It has been known to have an incredible turn around and has cured MANY MANY cats.
We we’re told it was very expensive but worth a shot because without it he would surely die.
I contacted an FIP group and within hours they were able to explain the disease, ease our minds, and even get us the medication to begin treatment right away. By the time I got everything in hand I was able to go pick up Rocky from the vet. When we brought him home he seemed even worse than before. He could no longer walk straight, his eyes were very cloudy, his back legs were giving out and he was extremely lethargic. FIP group said the FIP had reached his brain. This has been a terrifying experience for everyone involved. We watched videos provided, read everything we could on FIP, and did our best to educate ourselves to give Rocky his first injection. After one failed attempt we got it in. This medication is extremely expensive at about $34 a dose for the current dose he needs. He will need AT LEAST 84 doses to be cured. But since the FIP seems to be affecting every part of Rocky’s tiny body, we were told to be more aggressive with our injections and have been doing 2 each day instead of one. It has been a whole week of this so far.
In the first few days he started walking normal again for the most part. His eyes were still cloudy but it was progress. 4 days in, I noticed he was extra lethargic again and seemed to be in pain. He had a fever and I took him back to the emergency vet. This was 4/25/2022. The vet confirmed Rocky was extremely anemic and needed a blood transfusion right away. After the transfusion, things seemed to be looking up until this morning 4/27/2022. Rocky is still in the hospital fighting for his life. His red blood cell count dropped slightly but not enough to need another transfusion. The vet is unsure if he will survive another transfusion if it comes to that. The FIP group is very hopeful that he is not done fighting and that the medication can fix all of these problems and save his life. Rocky has been in the ICU for 2.5 days so far. The vets agree it’s his only shot and have also seen cats cured from this treatment. We are incredibly grateful for everyone involved helping to save Rocky’s life.
All that being said, his vet bills alone have totaled over $8000. So far. We don’t know how long he will be there this time or what else might be in store. His medications so far has been $1200 and it’s estimated at this rate to be $5000-$6000 in total. All of this is worth it to save Rocky’s life. Anything and everything is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance ❤️
