Help Rosa Recover from CEO’s Actions

I worked for a rich man. My job moved me across the country to a city I had never been to start a new branch early 2024. I successfully got this branch off the ground and fully functioning in 5 months. To save money, thecompany, my boss, moved all my belongings into storage in Texas and temporarily relocated me back across the country to Chicago to work at HQ before we moved onto the next stage in March 2025 - Latin America.

Nearing the end of 2024 my boss pushes all staff all to transition from independent contractors to employees. The new contract is more of a position of indentured servitude than it is an offer. It becomes incredibly tense, and a major employee quits.

On January 6th 2025, I woke up and found myself locked out of all accounts. As the hours tick by, messages left delivered or read, the horrifying reality sets in. We then received the email notifying us of our termination due to a “lack of sufficient funding and available work to support your role within the Company at this time”.

Anyone who wanted to negotiate their contract was fired in a mass exodus.

No severance.

Nothing regarding my belongings still across the country in storage.

They moved me to Chicago temporarily. I am staying at the air bnb they have paid through January. I have no lease. No security. No income.

I have also recently experienced a medical crisis where I had a serious infection that almost resulted in hospitalization. Out of pocket costs cleared out most of my savings. I am facing homelessness and losing all of my belongings.

My messages went ignored, so I messaged the CEO directly. Admittedly, in a frank way. I am not in a position where I have the grace of patience. He immediately becomes antagonistic, claiming the company is “too broke” because they “paid too many people to do barely any work this year”.

I could detail the many ways this man created a hostile work environment, but I am seeking legal counsel before detailing it any further beyond how it pertains to this campaign.

My goal is 20,000.

Movers cost 9k after tip and me flying round trip to monitor the loading and close out my storage unit. 11k is 3 months of income at around 3.6k a month. I am researching cheaper options for moving, like doing it myself. The problem is when I start work, I don’t know if I will be able to immediately request time to go down to Texas and move my stuff back.

Finding an apartment in Chicago is often anywhere between 2k-4k upfront. This is for application fees, background checks, security deposits, sometimes first and last month’s rent. The storage unit I am now left paying is $240 a month on top of that. I am looking for roommates, but I have a cat who has stress ulcers if she lives with other animals so it’s difficult to find a place suitable for her. Unfortunately, I may have to consider rehoming her with my ex until I can have a home again for her. Staying with family is unfortunately not an answer. They are outside the city where it is difficult to commute for work as I don’t have a car.

I plan on breaking down my costs more clearly in items as well so that you will see where the money is going.

In the last 6 days I have been applying tirelessly to jobs and apartments, and will continue to do so. That alone is a full time job. I still have to pay for my storage unit in Texas, and have no savings. It feels selfish to ask for help while so many people are struggling right now. However I am left with no options.

I am appreciative for every little bit of help. It is difficult for me to ask so plainly, especially to strangers, but I am at a point with no options left.

The poor decisions of CEO’s have continued to leave us with nothing.
