Help Rose Overcome $50K Medical Debt

Donation protected
Hey all! My name is Rose.

I've always been a "laugh through the pain" kinda gal, so I hope y'all can forgive me for the silly cover picture. Wasn't really sure what else I could use besides a selfie, anyways.

A few years ago, I developed an awful bacterial infection that required surgical intervention. I'll spare you the gruesome details, but long story short, it was in an extremely uncomfortable location that was also very inconvenient to try and treat. In an attempt to ease the process, my hospital decided to use a Wound Vac to clear the area after surgery.

It took months and only helped a little. I ended up recovering mostly the old-fashioned way because the vac couldn't get a good "seal" on the wound due to its awkward position...

Here's the problem, though: I tried to tell them I couldn't afford the equipment/treatment, and they basically ignored me. See, it was on my file that I had really good insurance, but despite me trying to explain that I wasn't going to be on that plan anymore as I was in the process of changing jobs before this whole thing started, they insisted on "trying to run it and see what happens." I was too incapacitated from the surgery to put up more of a fight.

Well, shocker, my old insurance didn't cover it and my new insurance didn't go into effect in time to cover it, either, so I was slapped with $50,000 of medical debt for a service that I didn't really need and that I tried to deny.

If I had been of sounder mind and body, I would have protested the bill and tried to sue, but they wasted no time in shirking the responsibility of my issue to someone else. While I was still in the hospital, intermittently drugged out on painkillers and just generally miserable and foggy-headed, they got me to sign for a loan from a bank that wasn't even my regular bank to pay off the debt, convincing me that would somehow make it easier to pay off. Stupidly, I just went with it because I had never been in a situation like this and I had no idea what I was doing.

So... I later find out that taking the loan basically cuts me off from any sort of legal action to try and clear the debt, so I take the L and do my best to keep up with my payments.

Unfortunately, I live in a pretty low-income area with only a modest income. I was able to keep up with payments for a while, but it's been like 3-4 years and I've paid off less than $10,000. Doing even that much has been financially killing me, and now I have an unrelated debt of $3,000 in taxes from two years ago. I feel like I'm drowning and I have no options for relief. I can't even qualify for a debt consolidation loan from my state because I'm considered such a severe delinquent and my credit score is abysmal.

On my own, it's probably going to take me my whole life to get all this debt off my shoulders, if I ever could, and with the economy becoming harder and harder out here in the States, I see no end in sight without assistance. I already work two jobs, both revolving around taking care of my disabled family members, and since those jobs require me to basically stay home 24/7, I really don't have any option to take on any more jobs or even side hustles. So that's why I'm turning to you and asking y'all to please, please help me out, if you can.

Anything you can spare will help me out a great deal, and I'll forever be grateful. I hate that it's come to this but you guys are basically my last hope. Rest assured that every penny I get from this is going to be going straight to my medical bills, and if we get to the point to where this fundraiser goes over the goal, the excess will go towards my tax debts first, then towards taking care of my family.
