Help Roy Porterfield Attend the 2024 Democratic Convention

Hello. I'm Roy Porterfield from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and I have been elected as a Delegate to the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago! As a retiree, my primary income is Social Security. I now discover that this trip will be much more expensive than anticipated (the hotel alone is well over $400/night), so here we are. You deserve to know something about me before choosing to contribute, so here is some brief biographical info.

•4th-generation Iowan, originally from Carroll and Jefferson. Graduate of Iowa State University, and also attended University of Iowa. Resident of Cedar Rapids since 1977.

•38-year member of Linn County Democratic Central Committee, currently Parliamentarian of that body.

•Labor supporter. Past member of CWA, current associate member of USW.

•LGBTQ+ community member. Co-founder in 1986 of Linn County Stonewall Democrats, Iowa's oldest LGBTQ+ political organization.

•Community activist, past and present. Founder-Iowa Congressional Civil Rights Project, co founder-Rapids AIDS Project, member/chair-Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission, member-Iowa 6th District Judicial Nominations Commission, counselor and trainer-Foundation 2 Crisis Center, hospice volunteer-Hospice of Mercy, certified community educator-Grant Wood Area Red Cross.

•Veteran-U.S. Army, Vietnam-era.
