Help Ruben and Heather

Donation protected
This is the hardest message I’ve had to write, and we have put off asking for help as long as possible. Let me start at the beginning: In March, Ruben was scheduled to have a cornea transplant to prevent him from losing sight in his remaining eye. He was supposed to return to work in 4 weeks. The surgery had some complications and the following week they had to go back in and do a repositioning. With the trauma of the two surgeries and the steroids he had to be on to prevent rejection of the transplant, the shaft in the back of his eye to allow it to drain closed up. He was taken in for an emergency surgery due to the pressure being too high on the optic nerve. This was another transplant surgery of a shunt placed to allow his eye to drain. So three surgeries in three weeks. After the last surgery he was told he could not return to work as a security guard as if he gets hit in the head he will lose his remaining vision. He also lost a significant amount of vision that the doctors still cannot explain. Ruben is now having to use a white cane and is taking classes to get some new skills with his new limitations. I am so proud of everything that he is trying to do and it may take another 6-12 months before we can get the financial help we need or Financially, we thought we had everything set up. We thought he had short term disability and his company pulled a fast one on us and we only got $259 for 2 months out of work. We filed for unemployment for him and for disability but have not gotten anything yet. Unemployment is fighting us at every turn and we have to fight multiple appeals. Disability requires him to be out of work for 5 months before they will even start to consider the case. We filed for another insurance policy through my job that’s supposed to help in these situations and they denied us because Ruben was born with vision issues. My salary is barely covering our main expenses: rent, food, insurance, utilities, but we are still behind on other bills. we drained our savings. We are locked into a lease until October 2024, so we have no other way to cut our expenses. Now, our car had four brakes and four tires going bad. We couldn’t do anything about it with the financial issues we were having but today we found out it’s going to be over $1000 to get it fixed. We cannot afford to get a new car and even tho we have 170k miles on it, she’s still getting us around to all do the doctor appts and everything. We are asking for some help to get by these next couple of months this as we are fighting to get Ruben the help he deserves. We trust God with everything and are holding onto Him through these trials. Thank you so much for your help. You can also DM me for my phone number to send Zelle, or cash app. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Love Heather and Ruben
