Help Rudy get through his bone marrow transplant

My Dad, Rudy Klancer, has been fighting Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) for the past 2 years. MDS is a form of blood cancer. Last year, he spent over 100 days in the hospital receiving chemo treatments. He also participated in a clinical trial trying to suppress this disease. Unfortunately, the treatments he received in the trial were no longer effective. The only other alternative was to receive a bone marrow/stem cell transplant.

My brothers, Tirell, Colby, and myself, were all tested, and were all a 50% match. The family decision was made that Colby would be the donor for the transplant. He was prepped for the procedure and then had to fly to Florida to the Be The Match Collection Center where he donated his stem cells.

My Dad had his transplant on April 29, 2021 at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute of Buffalo, NY. We’re now waiting to see if his body will accept the new stem cells or be rejected. He will also spend another two months in a rehabilitation house, near the hospital, to be closely monitored. He can’t be left alone, so myself, and various members of my family, will take turns caring for him. If everything goes well, he will be able to return home. He will have to make multiple trips in those following 8 months back to Buffalo to track and ensure the procedure is going as planned.

Unfortunately, with all these trips back and forth, the cost of staying at the rehabilitation house, which is not covered by insurance, and all the other expenses have added up. That’s why we’re asking for your help. If you can’t donate, even just a share of this page would be greatly appreciated.
