Help Russ and Sharyn Kaufman Through This Critical Time
Donation protected
On November 12th, Russ went for a bike ride and didn't return when it started to get dark. His family and a neighbor went looking for him but did not find him or the bike. After some time, they located him at the ER. Someone had seen him on the road and called it in. He has since been transported by helicopter to Bangor and is currently there on a ventilator and being sedated to let his brain rest. He has several fractures to his skull, front and back, and a torn vein behind his ear that will likely require surgery soon. There is bleeding in several places in the brain, and we do not have any further information on his condition at this time. It will be day by day in the ICU until they can wake him up and see how he responds and what the next steps are.
The sheriff's department has investigated the scene where he was found and located an injured deer in the bushes close by. It seems likely this was the cause of the accident and him being thrown from his bike.
His wife Sharyn (my sister) of nearly 30 years has never been apart from him for a single night until last night when she left him in the care of the ICU staff and went to a hotel to try to sleep.
Russ is a well-known and loved artist and friend in the Milbridge area. He is Sharyn's sole provider, and we do not know what the outcome of his condition will be. Sharyn will need all the support she can get during this difficult time. We are asking that anyone who wants to help please reach out to me, not to her yet, as it is too overwhelming for her to answer messages at this time. I will keep this page updated as I can when we know more.
Any funds raised will be used to care for their necessary expenses.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out and sent love and prayers. I can be reached through this page for further information or ways to support them.
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT SHARYN YET
