Help Ryan & other poorly children at Alder Hey
Donation protected
Hi,
After Ryan collapsed in January this year our World has been turned upside down. Seeing him getting more poorly each day to eventually being taken to at A and E at the Royal children's hospital in Manchester where Ryan's blood test showed heart failure.
After tests and being transferred to Alder Hey Liverpool, we were told Ryan has a very rare heart defect called CCTGA, this means when he was developing in the womb his heart was switched backwards along with Ebsteins Anolamy of the tricuspid valve, meaning a valve in his heart isn't working like it should and so blood leaks back into his heart instead of all being pumped out, therefore his heart was working overtime for the last 12 years.
He's lucky to even be alive still, this problem is usually picked up on a routine 20 week pregnancy scan but unfortunately Ryan's wasn't.
I had no idea that on the 7th of March 2022 I'd we'd be told that we can't go home due to Ryan being so poorly and Ryan needing surgery ASAP.
Now it is the 24th of March, Ryan had surgery on 22nd March, unfortunately as his heart was so weak already he suffered 2 cardiac arrests before the surgery started.
The surgery did go as planned but his heart is still too weak at the moment and is on an ECMO machine, still sedated but its giving his heart a chance to rest and heal.
Luckily I've had my partner being able to bring me clean clothes and food.
As we are now 45 miles away from home it hasn't been easy, especially with the fuel prices. Nothing has prepared us for all the extra costs we've had to face. Hospital car parking charges, fuel so my partner can bring me food and clean clothes.
I've had to put off paying my rent now and hope my landlord understands as I cannot deal with being homeless as well as having a son that's being kept alive on an ECMO machine.
I do not want to ask for help but I need to. Anything will be very much appreciated half of whatever is given is going to Alder Hey hospital to help other children who are poorly.
Thank you for reading our story ❤
Even if you cannot donate please always trust your gut instinct if you feel something is wrong with your child.
