Help Sabrin’s family survive the war in Gaza

My name is Sabrin Alkabariti, and I live in Gaza with my parents and my four siblings - Ahmed, Mahmoud, Mohamed and Hanin.

Since the start of the war on October 7 and the destruction of our home, we have had to move seven times. After seeking refuge in Rafah, we had to flee the Israeli assault and we are all now living in a single tent in Khan Younis.

Our living conditions have never been more difficult or desperate. The sweltering heat of summer is now being replaced by the rains of autumn and winter..

It’s been raining heavily in Gaza. Each drop feels like a rocket landing on the tents of displaced families, who are left exposed. After enduring a year of harsh sun and strong winds, our tents have become tattered and inadequate, and are flooded with water and mud.

It's very difficult to go outside now, as the area has turned into a quagmire of mud and puddles.We lack winter clothes and any means of heating. Charging phones is a huge challenge because it’s hard to charge solar batteries without sunlight.

This is the suffering of winter amidst war. Every day is harder than the day before in this war.

Our tent is our most immediate concern. Our tent’s plastic tarpaulins have been torn apart, and the rainwater is seeping through the fabric and flooding our tent. To make our tent livable for the coming winter, we need new plastic tarpaulins for the sides, corrugated iron for the roof, wood for structural support, and nylon flooring to keep the rain out and our tent dry.

Raw materials are expensive and hard to come by, and we need $390 for the corrugated iron, $300 for the tarpaulins, and even more for the nylon flooring, wood, and some winter clothes for our family.

We had hoped that we would by now see an end to this war and the chance to rebuild our lives, but no end is in sight. We remain hopeful that there are better days to come for all of us, but we must appeal to all of you once again for your continued support to help ease the burdens of winter.
