Help Sadie Mae Overcome Osteosarcoma
Donation protected
Sadie Mae Williams is a sweet, creative and loving 8 year old who's always been an active girl. Running, jumping, climbing, and playing. She loves to swim, plays softball, and was so excited about her new roller skates and skateboard she just got for Christmas this year. Her joy in using her body to play and compete has made her the athletic and active child she is. Her exuberance brings so much joy to her friends, family, and classmates.
On New Year's Day, Sadie’s parents brought her to urgent care as she’d been limping and complaining of leg pain. After reviewing x-rays, they were advised to bring her to the hospital immediately. Later that week she was diagnosed with stage 2 osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, in her femur. Plans for chemotherapy and surgery were urgently scheduled and the rest of life was put on pause.
Sadie left the hospital in a full leg cast, attended as many days of school as she could, and on Jan. 15th went back to Stonybrook Hospital to receive her first rounds of chemo. She will face a very tough year ahead, with 9 more weeks of chemo now, followed by surgery, and then another 17 weeks of chemo. Every chemo treatment will require 2-3 nights in the hospital and the surgery may require traveling out of state, depending on the surgical option they decide on. All surgical options will permanently change the way in which she can use her leg.
It will take a village to help Annie Coccari, Matt Williams, Sadie, and Theo navigate this incredible battle while Annie and Matt continue to work and Theo attends school and his regular activities. This GoFundMe will assist the family with medical expenses over the next year including a variety of expenses that aren’t covered by their insurance.
Other ways to support them, that would be most helpful are:
• Rides for Theo
• Meals for the family
• House cleaning services
• Scheduling FaceTimes with Sadie
All of which can be found here: https://www.giveinkind.com/inkinds/X3W1P0T/support-for-sadie-and-family. The family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and love so far and is incredibly grateful for everything.
