Help Sage Achieve Gender Euphoria
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Sage (they/them) and I am a black, disabled, queer, non-binary individual asking for community support with fundraising for my gender-affirming care surgeries.
I have been social transitioning since around 2009 and have faced many barriers to receiving gender-affirming care throughout the years. These barriers include multiple failed consultations with surgeons, many of which were not trauma-informed and created emotional distress.
Fortunately for me, after almost three years of waiting for my consultation with OHSU, I received the call just a few days before my 26th birthday. During this consultation, I was approved for surgery with Dr. Bene and words cannot express the relief and gratitude I feel with some of the barriers beginning to alleviate. However, when I turned 26, I lost my prior insurance benefits. This means that the surgeries to support me in living authentically and reaching gender euphoria are no longer fully covered.
In fact, with the insurance change, one of my surgeries was not covered at all and has resulted in it being a self-pay procedure, costing close to $25,000 completely out of pocket. The surgery that is self-pay is necessary for me to undergo before my top surgery procedure.
The goal amount listed in my GoFundMe will assist with my efforts to access life-changing medical care, allow me to take time off from work to heal from both surgeries, and support me with maintaining my basic needs while I am out of work.
I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to find a surgeon that I feel safe with and trust to do my surgery. I ask that if you are unable to donate, please share with your community to help me reach my goal.
