Help Sam and Claire Secure a Home

Hi, my name is Sam and my wife is Claire. I am a 73 year old retiree and a Vietnam vet. My wife is 70. I find myself in a situation I never though would be possible. In 2003 we lost our home through foreclosure. We managed to complete a chapter 13 bankruptcy. Not everybody entering into chapter 13 completes it. It was tough. In 2005 I was forced to retire from Ford. I was 1.75 years from a full pension and they would not give me the full benefit. So, I was forced to live on a partial pension and I was 7 years away from minimum Social Security age. I am a skilled tradesman and I can do architectural drawing. We moved to several different places from 2003 to today. We have been at our current location for 10 years. We never missed a payment, in fact I always paid up top 1 week early.

My landlord died suddenly from a massive heart attack 8 months after we moved in. We signed a 4 year lease and Emily, the daughter, renewed it for 2 more years. Just as that 2 year lease was ready to expire I was in recovery from my second hip replacement and I had a partial Nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma. My lease renewal didn't happen because of my physical problems, but Emily was good about it. Now we are entering our 11th year here. in mid November of 2023 I asked Emily for a renewed lease and she said she would take care of it after the new year 2024. I called the first week in January and she said she changed her mind and wanted to sell the house. This is the source of our emergency.

The economy from 2021 to today has taken a huge bite out of our retirement income. We have Medicare that we cannot afford the copays, food, fuel and energy costs are crippling us. I can afford to pay my rent, but I don't have the money to move. We found a modest manufactured home for about $80K. We need help with the closing costs, fees, down payment and moving. Our monthly payment will be almost $500 less per month than we are paying now. Rental properties are $400-$600 than 2021. We could potentially be homeless in 45 days. I never asked for help in my entire life. I helped people whenever I could. I need help now, desperately.
