Help Samuel's heart and support the Beutler family
Donation protected
Doug and Angie Beutler are expecting their first child. Angie is currently 35 weeks pregnant with their son Sam, who has been diagnosed with a single ventricle defect. This defect is known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), with a double outlet right ventricle and a possible heterotaxy asplenia.
To fight for Sam, Doug and Angie Beutler plan to travel to MUSC in Charleston, SC, this month for his birth due to a scheduled open-heart procedure during his first week of life.
The medical team has explained that Sam's heart will never fully form on the left side, and treatment will begin immediately to save Sam's life. The treatment and recovery at MUSC are expected to last 6-8 weeks before returning to Greenville, SC, where weekly treatment will continue. After 4-6 months, Sam will have a second surgery called the bidirectional Glenn procedure at MUSC with additional treatment and recovery.
The Beutler family is committed to the journey of years of planned surgeries and treatments to give Sam a chance for life.
Please consider helping Sam and donating to support the Beutler family with the needs associated with his planned surgeries and procedures.
Sam's treatments cannot be performed locally in Greenville, SC, and there are multiple ways that you can help with their expenses:
- travel
- lodging
- food
- childcare
- supplemental income while they are on leave
- the unexpected
You can also follow Angie's journal at https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/samuelbeutler and post comments to show your support.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Sam's journey and donating to support him.
