Help Samantha with Gender Confirmation Surgery

Hello! My name is Samantha. In early 2021 I came out as transgender, and since coming out, I have been living my best life. I am married to my wonderful wife, and we are raising a 4.5 year old along with 4 cats. As I have been moving through my transition, I realized that gender confirmation surgery (GCS) is a vital part of my transition. This is lifesaving surgery, and something that will vastly improve my quality of life.

 

I am lucky in that my insurance covers this surgery, however surgeons want people who undergo this surgery to be local to the surgical center for 2-4 weeks for the initial recovery, and there are no local options. Since I have to travel, based on reviews I debated between Syracuse, NY and New York City for this surgery, eventually locking in on Syracuse, NY. However, recently I found out that Syracuse is no longer offering this surgery for the foreseeable future due to a staff retirement.

 

Thankfully I still had a consult with Mt. Sinai in NYC scheduled for March 2023, so that is now my primary choice. 

[Update] I ended up changing surgeons in NYC, and had a consult in August 2022! I was told to expect a surgery date in early 2023 now!

However, I will need to now account for staying in NYC for 2-4 weeks for the surgery and recovery, which is significantly more than I planned. I will also need to take some trip(s) prior to the surgery for consultations and tests. To help with those planned costs lodging and travel costs, travel for consultation visit(s) at NYC, and preparation work that I’m undergoing (weekly electrolysis), I'm starting this GoFundMe. Anything that I get that is not needed will be forwarded to other transgender people who need help.
