Hi, My name is Anis Rettab, I live in France I'm a friend of Sami and I'm writing Sami's story with pain and sorrow On October 7, I woke up to the sound of thousands of missiles, announcing the beginning of the armed conflict. In the first days of the conflict, the occupation made a ground incursion into my area, which forced me to move to a shelter for the displaced. Soon after, famine broke out, and I found myself living on just one loaf of bread a day, with all means of subsistence cut off, including water, electricity, and even basic safety. The situation deteriorated as the occupation targeted communities and various forms of electricity production.
On the twentieth day of the war, my father was injured in his right hand and foot as a result of the bombing of a building. He suffered fractures in the bones in his foot and leg, in addition to head injuries from shrapnel. With medical facilities such as Al-Shifa Medical Complex almost completely unable to function, he was transferred to a hospital in the southern part of the area to receive further treatment, including surgery and stabilization of his broken foot.
After that, our shelter in the school where we had sought refuge was surrounded, and white phosphorus bombs, which are internationally banned, were dropped on us. Many were killed, and many others were arrested, so we had to move south.
We took refuge in the hospital where my father was being treated, amid the harsh conditions surrounding the area. The disease ravaged my body, and brought me close to death several times before medical interventions. I suffered from malnutrition, lack of clean water, and back problems from sleeping on the floor for six months straight.
The college where I was studying was completely destroyed by the bombing, which claimed the lives of its dean and a number of my colleagues. All my dreams were shattered, and I was deprived of my most basic right, which is education.
