Help Samson enjoy a healthy retirement!
Donation protected
Handsome Samson the Belgian gelding came to the farm on February 7, 2022 after almost 20 years of hard work as an Amish horse. He had been sent to the sale barn to go for meat, but Stone Ridge Stables & Rehoming Centre went in to rescue him, and thereafter aopted him (and his Percheron girlfriend Ella) out to us.
Samson is severely underweight with very worn teeth. When Stone Ridge took him in, he had sharp points on his teeth that were causing painful mouth ulcers. They had their vet float his teeth, and his mouth has healed up nicely. However, he has developed a blockage in his esophagus over the past week.
Our farm vets have been here for three emergency visits in the past week, but were unable to completely clear it (difficult to do without having an endoscope on hand to see what is going on!) So on February 22, we took Samson to the Prescott Animal Hospital Large Animal Surgery & Medical Referral Centre, where the vet did an endoscopy, then worked for four hours straight to clear the blockage. Samson is still there, and they are hoping to finish the job today (Feb 23rd), but he will be at the vet until at least tomorrow, if not Friday. Once the blockage is cleared, they will take another look around with the endoscope to ensure no mass/tumour causing the blockage. We suspect his worn-down teeth make him prone to blockages in the future, as he cannot chew his food adequately. So from now on, he will likely be on a "soupy" soakeddiet.
If you would like to help with the costs of Samson's veterinary care, any donations will be very much appreciated. We want Samson to enjoy a long, happy, healthy and well-deserved retirement here at Bee Meadow Farm with his Percheron girlfriend Ella (also a retired Amish work horse.)

Thank you for helping this handsome boy! We are working to put weight on him so that he looks and feels much better, but first, we need to get through this little medical adventure!
