Sam was a loving soul who was lost too soon. Gone from this world but never from our hearts. He was an exceptional father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Devjani, two sons, Saajan and Amar, parents Mabel and Rowland, two sisters Florence and Angelina, nephew Aiden and niece Sophie.
Sam was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He grew up in Queens, New York from 1985 and moved to Peekskill in 2020. He was an active sports player, especially ice hockey, avid dancer, and activist, volunteering with the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. He participated in youth enrichment programs for underserved communities, like South Asian Youth Action. He developed curriculum for school systems nationally through the Global Kids network. Most recently, he was a respected, loved, and admired co-worker and colleague in the Center for Education Research and Evaluation at Columbia University Medical Center. He had a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and was a Doctoral candidate at Columbia Teacher’s college.
Sam was a wonderful, creative, loving and caring person with a deep compassion for everyone, especially those facing challenges. He was honest and hard working and never judged anyone. He was deeply spiritual and believed in the interconnectedness of all sentient beings. He was respectful to all and loved by everyone who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Please consider honoring Sam’s memory by donating to either this fund or contributing to Saajan's and Amar’s future education with New York's 529 College Savings Program Direct Plan. To donate, please go to https://www.ugift529.com/ and use code A53-U1K for Saajan and code K9W-35K for Amar.
