Help San Jose Batting Cages During Covid Shutdown

San Jose Batting Cages has been proudly serving our community in Silicon Valley since 2009. From day one our mission has been to provide a safe affordable environment and facility where all members of our community could use regardless of social-economic background. The vast majority of our customers are youth baseball and softball players. Our goal is to use baseball and softball as a means to teach and instill long lasting values which will help them long into their lives through adulthood.
On March 16th we were forced to close due to Covid-19 by the County of Santa Clara wiping out the busiest times of the year for us with Spring Youth Baseball, Softball, and Adult recreational leagues now cancelled. It was an extremely stressful time as we had to pivot our business and adapt to the new regulations imposed on us. We went from a thriving business to one that was struggling to pay it bills since we had been ordered to shut down for over 4 months. It wasn’t until the end of June we were allowed to start training our athletes again with very restrictive guidelines. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 and guidelines imposed by the State and County our registrations plummeted for our Summer Camps by over 85%. I had to in fact argue with the County as initially they would not allow youth camps to share like items which for a sports camp was impossible. Yes the County didn’t want kids sharing something as simple as a ball. We thought we were out of the woods from being closed and we’re on our way to recovery until we were blind sided in November and have been closed to the general public since.
When Covid-19 hit we had to make a hard choice with which bills to pay and many have not been paid.. when a business loses 80% of it’s revenue it becomes almost impossible to survive. To make it worse I believe small businesses, such as San Jose Batting Cages, have been unfairly given the full weight of the burden by businesses to shoulder. Large businesses such as Lowe’s Home Depot, Target, Walmart and every grocery store have been allowed to stay open under the cloud they are essential businesses. For the greater part of almost a year we have not even been allowed to have “1” customer in our facility! The children of our community are essential too as their health and mental wellbeing have suffered due to the lock down.
Our state and county governments have deemed us non-essential to our community. Please help save our small family run business since our State and County officials have abandoned us….businesses such as San Jose Batting Cages are essential to the children of our community.
Sincerely,
