Help Sarah and Camilo Rebuild After Hurricane

Our dear friends Sarah and Camilo’s home and neighborhood was devastated by Hurricane Helene. The Green River Cove of Saluda, North Carolina saw destruction beyond belief as ~14 inches of rainfall all across the surrounding mountains drained into this river basin, causing mudslides, flooding, and debris flow that left the area unrecognizable.

While Sarah and Camilo are lucky amongst their neighbors to still have a house standing, their home was flooded, and much of their personal property destroyed. What few precious items are salvageable must be hiked out through a very strenuous and treacherous 2.6 mile path up a 1,000 foot mountain.

As renters, they face a number of challenges to recoup any damages. And the regional housing crisis they will face after this disaster will make finding an affordable home very difficult.

On top of everything else, Sarah was just laid off the employment that was her primary source of income, and Camilo’s truck was severely damaged by tree fall during the storm. They just pulled the short end of the stick this time, and I would love to direct all of you watching helplessly from afar, wanting to know how to help, to aid us in creating a warm embrace around these sweet friends who need a boost right now!

While they are fortunate and incredibly grateful to have a place to stay for the next couple of weeks, they will soon be looking for a new place to call home. Funds raised here will go to first, last, and deposit on a new home, and replacing necessary items lost in the storm to move in (furniture, pots and pans, bedding, etc).
