Help Sarah on her Breast Cancer Journey
Donation protected
This is something a sister never wants to write about her sibling, but here we are. Several weeks ago Sarah found a lump in her right breast. She was scheduled for an ultrasound, all of us assuming it would be some type of fibroid or cysts- nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, at that appointment she got some bad news that this lump was very indicative of cancer and she would need further imaging and biopsies. She completed the biopsies and they came back as cancerous. Specifically stage 2, grade 3, estrogen and HER2 receptor positive.
With the initial meeting with the surgical oncologist completed, we have come to find out that her journey will be much more in depth than we had hoped. She is looking at months of chemotherapy which will require her to have a port placed and chemo every 3 weeks. Likely she will require surgery after that to remove whatever is left of the tumor, and then radiation and estrogen blocking medications to keep the cancer in remission. Obviously, this is a lot for everyone to take in and very overwhelming.
To make matters more complex Sarah’s husband Trevor had a stroke on January 3rd (his 3rd stroke in his life). This latest stroke has left him with deficits in his left arm and hand, and at this time he is unable to work because as a cath lab technician, his job duties require extreme dexterity in his hands. He is making great strides with PT and OT, but there is no clear path to when he will be fully recovered. He is receiving short term disability from work, but this is only a fraction of what his usual income is.
Those who know Sarah and our family, know we are very holistic and along with modern medicine, Sarah would like to try some alternative therapies that would not be covered by insurance. Additionally, Sarah has been told she will lose her hair and we are looking into treatment options such as cold caps, wigs etc to make this not as a shocking change for their daughter Ava.
Those that know Sarah know she is a passionate and vibrant woman, who has put in much time and effort to help others. Please show your support to help Sarah and Trevor through this difficult time. If you aren’t in the position to give monetarily, we would ask for prayers and support through these next months ahead.
