Help Sarah Pettigrew Get on her Feet
Our sweet Sarah needs our help and donations for a serious MS related relapse.
Sarah is my best friend and the reason I am here today. Sarah found me after I suffered a series of life threatening strokes, without her calling 911 and sharing my medical history with the paramedics, I may not be here today. I know how helpful a fundraiser can be during a medical crisis, because Sarah fundraised for me and my family when I was in need. Her fundraising efforts helped us manage the astronomical costs of being in hospital.
We have been friends since high school, and have been dealing with our own personal medical issues, but that connection has brought us closer together.
Sarah is the most compassionate, selfless person I know. She would drop everything to help a friend or family member in need, and I have seen this first hand.
I am managing this fundraiser to help her literally get on her feet again after a particularly bad Multiple Sclerosis related episode. I want to give her the peace of mind that she will be able to afford expensive medications and therapies, and focus on her recovery.

Sarah’s MS Story
Sarah has been living with the complications of Multiple Sclerosis for 7 years. MS is a disease that causes the body to attack the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. In the most recent past Sarah has had complications with her vision, called Optic Neuritis. Symptoms of this ranges from vision problems, painful eyes, to temporary vision loss.
So far, all of her episodes have been a result of lesions on the cervical spinal cord and her brain, affecting her eyes, and occasional numbness. Thoughts that she would experience lower body paralysis were slim. Unfortunately, this week Sarah unexpectedly lost feeling in her legs, resulting in her being unable to walk. It is likely Sarah has lesions in her lumbar spinal cord region.
Sarah has been living with the notion that any of these symptoms could appear at any moment, but being unable to feel her legs has rendered her in need of mobility aids such as a wheelchair, walker and cane. Like a broken bone, though it happened abruptly, the recovery period can be lengthy. She has started the long journey of months of intense physical therapy and is fighting for the return of her feeling and strength.
How will these funds help Sarah?
Through all of her past MS episodes Sarah has pushed through, put on a brave face, and gone right back to life, working through the vision loss and uncomfortable numbness. This relapse will require focused rehabilitation, patience and fight.
The goal of this fund is to raise enough money for Sarah to cover her financial obligations during her rehabilitation, including mobility accessories, rent, bills, medication and therapies that are not covered by OHIP.
Sarah’s positive attitude and ability to work through her hard times is admirable, but this time she needs just a little more help so she can put all her positive energy into healing.
Please donate to help Sarah walk again. Any amount helps, and every donation is very much appreciated.
